SunburstEight in the morning and my shaved head
burns tan with summer, eighty-five degrees
of heat and separation, and the air
conditioner has conditioned me to roll
the windows down
my hand against my sweat-drenched forehead
and my eyes at the cars around me.
Perspective tells me I should be glad the car works.
The migraine tells me I should murder everyone.
Pigeons on a nearby traffic sign are playing
their usual game of "which car is best
to crap on, and how long will that crap sizzle
before it dries", and I'd feel bad for that Lexus
under them if he hadn't cut me off two miles back.
The pigeons hav
The show must go onLife sometimes plays tricks on us
And we loose the strength to cary on
She cuts our legs and break our hearts
And we loose sense of reality
We loose our way
We think about our loved ones
About what will be of them
And let tears drop down our face
But we cant let the bad guys win
We need to fight
And cary on
Nothing really matters
The show must go on
And like actors we try again
We fight again
And until the END
Because that's what's the most important
Let our Angels help along the way
Let friends clean out our wounds
Let family clean out our tears
Because you are not alone
We all fight our good fights
We all fall and rise again
Like warriors we fight
And in moonlight we scream
You wont win again..........we fight until the end

Introducing turbulentvortex !
Who is turbulentvortex? Tell us a bit about yourself!
My real name is Ivan, and I am currently an Engineering undergraduate living in Singapore. I have been into photography for about 8 years, and into weather & sky photography for that same length. I actually started off with a hobby in Astronomy, just looking at the stars, and only picked up photography after that when I got hooked onto trying t
WDay 13 - HapinessThe feeling of bliss, one very rare. Though it’s a certainly a welcome sensation. Peace and happiness, a welcome change to the normal tense atmosphere. With change in the air it's hard to not have a cheerful state. A warmth spreads throughout ones mind an soul, bringing them to ease. A calming sensation during a much needed time, something so wonderful.
A Teddy Bear's Heart - FreewriteThe white teddy bear, despite her age, seemed to be in fine condition. Unfortunately, she had spent most of her life on a shelf before finding herself packed away into a box during one year’s spring cleaning. The girl whose bedroom the bear had sat in took one look at the dated red and green dress, wrinkled her nose, and dropped the bear in with the other older plushes. After all, the girl had plenty of new ones to play with, fancy unicorns that sang and furry puppies that barked.
But today, for the first time in several years, the white bear saw sunlight again.
The girl’s father finished hammering a sign into the grass, the words YARD SALE painted on it in bright blue. The white teddy bear leaned into the girl’s hand as she rearranged the old stuffed animals and children’s books at the table she was in charge of managing. The bear remembered watching that girl sleep when she was little, shooing off nightmares and weeping when she m
TestamentWith the mourners gone, the house was finally quiet again. My sister made tea for us while I examined the details of mother's will. We weren't glad she was gone, not by any stretch of the imagination, but we were the kind of family that dotted our i's and crossed our t's. Mother would have wanted it to be this way, so we put aside our grief and focused on the facts.
And the biggest fact of all was that despite everything we knew about mother, and through all the years she claimed to have no secrets; there was, apparently, one very large one being carried around within her. Her last will and testament, contrary to everything we'd expected, contained a mystifying reference to a prophecy and, of all things, a robotic cat.
It was this that I was puzzling over while Maisy busied herself in the kitchen, and our conversation was both muted and unenlightening. She was as in the dark as I was, and we sat attempting to make sense of the thing until the birds outside warned us of the day's immine
The Dream of Returning Home
Clay carefully tucked the silver necklace and St Jude medal under his shirt. It'd fallen out when Luke landed a nice right cross and nearly put Clay on the ground. But he'd recovered quicker than Luke ever thought he would and capitalized on the surprise with an upper cut that left Luke laid out. It took three of their crew to carry him to the medical bay. Clay had walked and patiently waited to be attended to for his injuries.
He'd only had a moment to glance out the window and see the small dot of light that was his home before Crash was sitting down in front of him and asking why he'd picked another fight. “I was bored.”
“Most people have hobbies for when they're bored.” Crash pulled a fresh kit out and opened the package so he could clean the open wounds on Clay's face.
“Fighting is my hobby.” Clay smirked at the look Crash gave him. “What?”
“Sometimes, I don't think you'll ever learn.
The Ring"It must have belonged to someone very rich."
"Maybe even a Queen!"
Two boys, barefoot and in tattered overalls stood in the middle of a dirt road, staring down at the ground. A ring glittered gaudily up at them, a big red stone set in a thick gold band with much smaller sparkly-white stones set all around it.
"Stupid. There aren't any Queens in America."
One dusty toe reached out to nudge the ring before jerking back.
"Dunno. Maybe it was a Princess instead."
The other boy seemed to accept this with a nod. "Maybe."
Quiet reigned over the pair, two heads bumping against each other, one orangey-red and the other dirty blonde.
It was a bright summer day but neither of them were even thinking about the cool swimming hole waiting for their visit. The idea of digging for worms and heading to the fishing haunt didn't even enter their minds.
"My momma would love to have a pretty bauble like that."
"Any girlie would. But we'd have to tell her where we got it."
"Hm. Yeah. Nobody'll believe us i
Giggles in the Night She heard the giggle and a cold sweat broke out on her brow, chilling her skin in the cool night air, knowing her wish that the unwanted visitor leave her alone had been in vain. Since their run-in the previous night, she felt on edge. Vulnerable. She couldn’t fully explain this feeling of dread… As if something horrible were about to happen. When he appeared the night before, her initial thought was one of curiosity. Where had he come from? It seemed odd that he was traveling alone and she distinctly remembered the prickling along her nape as he took a step closer. He appeared to be looking around his surroundings anxiously, as if looking for… For what? Trouble? Was he making sure that he was the only one around? A knot had formed in her stomach by then and the first thoughts of trepidation eased into her mind.
He slowly continued to move into her yard and she quickly shut and locked the door. Hers was not a large back yard
All Hallow's EveOne night, so important to me.
The one night of the year
I might see you once more.
Samhain, All Hallow's Eve.
A mystical night,
shrouded in mystery.
I take my jack'o'lantern,
the bread, the apples, the mead,
and to the crossroads I set my feet.
Careful to keep my face hidden,
lest the darker souls see me.
Always a worry,
to be caught
or by ghosts.
Tonight tis worse,
the veil easily rent,
able to mingle with those
who once were as we are now.
Will you come?
Or did you say all you wished,
before you left,
before you died?
Each year I make this,
Under the light of the moon,
I sit, waiting on
All Hallow's Eve,
hoping to see your face,
hear your voice,
just one last time.
Eulogy for DadThe following is a transcript of the eulogy for my father, Norman K. Grimes, as read at his funeral on April 24, 2009. I remember how often you said you didnt like people making a fuss over you, and yet here we are doing just that. But so many people loved you and thought you were special---too special not to be given a proper send-off. And youve always known how dramatic and flowery I am; yet everything comes from the heart, and surely speaks for all of us gathered here.
When we received the news of your death, w

A/N (please read): This latest chapter of Ludwig and Matilda deals with a sensitive historical topic which is still argued about today. In no way is it meant to hurt or offend anyone of German or Austrian descent, and I certainly hope it wont. That being said, it would be just as wrong to try to sanitize history, especially where crimes against humanity are involved. However---and as parts of this chapter will point out---there were Germans, Austrians and other Europeans during WWII who did no

First Comes Love, Then Comes Marriage
"In the arithmetic of love, one plus one equals everything, and two minus one equals nothing."
It had been nearly a year since Matilda returned from Austria and settled back to life in the States. Her friendship with Ludwig had changed her for the better, and she came home happier and far more confident about herself. It proved to be a mixed blessing for Hortense, since Matilda had also decided to go live on her own, insisting it was better for everyone invo
