Daily Deviations UpdateHappy Monday Morning

I started this morning by signing something "Moonbam13" so either this typo means I need more coffee, or this week is going to be BAMTASTIC!
I'm rooting for the latter

I wanted to post a quick update on changes to Daily Deviations. It is important to note that these changes have not been hard-coded so my team is manually following these new guidelines. This means that errors can and likely will occur until the coding is complete, your patience and understanding is appreciated

The following guideline changes are in effect:

The 3-month rule is now the 6-month rule, meaning that it must be at least 6-months since the last time an artist received a daily deviation. (This was an overwhelmingly popular suggestion from the community and I agree, it's a good one!)

Daily deviation selectors may only select one daily deviation per day maximum. This has been put in place to focus on Quality vs Quantity.

A reminder about sending us DD suggestions! When you do, please please please check to see if the person you are suggesting has had a DD in the last 6 months!! Its very important and it makes our lives a lot easier!!

Please DO NOT send the same suggestion to both Dan and I - again it causes us problems!

If somebody is asking you to nominate a particular piece of their work for a DD in exchange for points or something else please DO NOT suggest them for a DD. Having 40+ people spamming us

Proposed Changes to the Stock & Resources Gallery Sub-Cats
Over the last several months we've been listening to you, and making a list of things you as stock providers submitting to the gallery, and artists searching for stock, would like to see changed or improved.
As you can imagine, this list is pretty big - given that the stock & Resources Gallery is also pretty big!
These changes and improvements include altering some of the sub category names to be more in line with the other DA galleries, moving sub-categories around to make their position in the gallery tree more logical, and disconti

What were your first artistic influences, and did they have a hand in the development of your resources?
Ah, this one i remember. In college, for my photography A-Level I was researching digital artists and came across Mika (Mary) Borsiss in a photography journal. She did wonderful fantasy manipulations, so I emailed her (not expecting a response) and a lovelier person you couldn't ask for. She explained all about how she creates her art. After that I was hooked on digital. 4 years later I went over to the resources provider dark side because of the frustration of not being able to find certain stock.

Miscats are as bad for your stock as missing keywords. They cause problems in the categories you are wrongly submitting to, make our galleries look disorganised and messy, and ultimately inhibit the exposure of your hard work to other artists.
Miscats are one of the most frequently complained about issues on DA.
Common Miscats
There are several varieties we see regularly that include

Placing 3 quarter/cropped or portrait model stock into the full body category.

Placing Interior shots into the Exterior category.

Placing 3D renders and premade stock into the stock photography interior/exterior categories rather than into their own equivalents.

Placing 3D renders into 3D models - which should be reserved for the physical model files, not renders of the model.

Placing landscapes or scenery shots into the Places category which should be reserved for images that show man made objects.

PE - S&R Keywords and your StockKeywords... what are they... how do they work, and why are they important?
What are they...
Keywords are descriptive words added to the information on your submitted deviation.
How do they work....
Keywords are essential when any DeviantART user looks for any kind of artwork, in any gallery using the search feature. Just like when you use an internet search engine like Google to research something. Whatever you type into a search engine, is a "keyword"
Why they are important....
The fundamental purpose for sharing stock and resources on DA (or anywhere else for that matter), is to enable other artists, to FIND and USE your work.
Artists search for stock using DA's integral search engine. Which ultimately runs off "keywords" So one of the most fundamental things you can do to aid the exposure of your stock, is to apply the right keywords to it when you submit it.

Its a regular question, and something that the other Community Volunteers get asked about as well. So during Project Educate Stock & Resources week I'm going to try and lay out some of the reasons behind our choices.

There is something fundamentally different about stock & resources DD's compared to all the other DD's from all the other galleries.
Stock & Resources are NOT finished artworks to be viewed as an end product.
We can't stress this enough!!!

Seniority Announcement - December 2011This article marks the latest announcements detailing the latest additions to the dizzy height of Senior members in our community. With just over 800 deviants holding the highly saught after ` -- it's clearly a moment that deserves recognition.

So what does it take to become a Senior? That's a question many have asked and have never really been able to get a straight answer on. Some have gained Seniority as a thank you for their time spent as a Volunteer, or to recognise their contribution to a particular project or collaborative action. Photography Trouble Shooting: LightingRecently during a #projecteducate week focusing on Still Life Photography we asked for you to share the issues that you might have when trying to obtain some great Still Life Shots. Through this series of articles we hope to answer some of the queries or give you that push you need to step outside boundaries and get creative. The first frustration came from *1510 who struggled with Lighting additionally a further 19 Deviants voted on the poll to indicate they had the same issues.

"*1510 lamps and natural light are a perfectly good way of lighting a subject. Many 'professional' lighting solutions, particularly the ones that burn 'hot' or constantly, are not much more than high wattage incandescent light bulbs often with some sort of cooling (to prolong the lifespan of the bulb).

In the Tutorial Treasury, you will find tutorials geared towards Photomanipulators and some that will deal with a broader subjects, such as lighting, colour etc. The tutorials will be from dA as well as from all over the web and in each episode, there will be 3 to 6 tutorials for your reading pleasure (any more than that I guess no one will have time to read anyway). Bernhard - It was the love for Mother Nature my parents taught me since I was a little child. With an old Olympus OM2 I got the tool to capture it, maybe 20 years ago.
Eve - My Dad and my husband - both great photographers - my husband lent me his brand new camera on a trip to the Rockies in May 2006 so I could 'have a go' at taking some photos.
